About Before It Rugs

Who runs Before It Rugs, why it exists, what it will never do, and how a free Solana memecoin risk checker pays its way without selling you anything.

Updated 21 October 2026

Before It Rugs grades new Solana memecoins from A to F on the warning signs that tend to show up before a rug pull. It's free, it runs on public data, and it shows you the evidence behind every grade so you can judge it for yourself.

Who runs it

Before It Rugs is run by one independent person in the UK. I'm a designer and developer.

I built it after losing money to exactly the patterns it now flags. Bundled launches where a handful of wallets held identical bags. Liquidity that wasn't locked. A ticker that turned out to be a copy of the coin I meant to buy. All of it was visible on-chain before I bought. I just didn't know where to look, or didn't look fast enough.

So I wrote something that looks for me, every few seconds, and puts the answer in plain English.

I don't publish my name. Crypto attracts scammers, impersonators and angry people, and I'd rather the work speak for itself. Everything that matters is out in the open instead: how grades are calculated, where the data comes from, how the site is funded, and what happened to the coins we flagged. If something looks wrong, you can tell me and I'll check it. See Contact and Corrections.

What it does

  • Watches new and trending Solana memecoins using public market data from DexScreener and GeckoTerminal, refreshed every 10 seconds.
  • Pulls a RugCheck token report for each coin once it has at least $3,000 of liquidity (or $3,000 of trading in the last hour on a launch curve), and re-checks it every 10 minutes while it is on the live board. Until the first report arrives a coin shows a question mark, and smaller coins stay unchecked unless you paste their address into the search box.
  • Turns the warning signs it finds into a grade from A to F, with a line of plain English for each one.
  • Flags copycats that reuse the ticker of an older coin.
  • Tracks what happens to coins after we flag them.
  • Keeps a survivors leaderboard. It lists new coins at least 24 hours old (with 3-day and 7-day cohorts) that are still standing: at least $5,000 traded in the last 24 hours, at least $5,000 of liquidity (or still on a launch curve), and not down 90% or more from the highest price we recorded. It only includes coins we first saw within 6 hours of launch and under $10 million market cap. Surviving isn't a recommendation.

The full method, with the points for every signal, is on the methodology page.

What it won't do

  • No wallet connection. Not now, not ever. You never sign anything on this site.
  • No token. There is no Before It Rugs coin. If you see one, it's a scam.
  • No trading signals. We don't tell you what to buy, sell or hold.
  • No buy buttons and no links that take you straight to a trade.
  • No Telegram group. Anyone claiming to run one for us is not us.
  • No paid grades. Nobody can pay to change a grade, remove a coin or get a better score.

A good grade means we didn't find the warning signs we look for. It does not mean a coin is safe. Read what our grades mean and can a safe-looking coin still rug? before you lean on one.

How it's funded

Running the site costs money, mostly servers and data. It's paid for in four ways:

  • Google AdSense ads. In the UK and EU these only use cookies if you agree, through Google's certified consent tool. See Cookies.
  • One sponsor at a time. Sponsors are limited to things like wallet security, hardware wallets, password managers, crypto tax software and education. We never take money from token launches, exchanges, trading bots, signal groups, gambling or anything promising returns. Every sponsored placement is clearly labelled. The full policy is on Sponsors and partnerships.
  • Our own guides. A free one-page "60-Second Rug Check", plus paid PDFs: the "Before You Ape" field guide (£9), the "Exit Plan Workbook" (£5), or both for £12. They're in the shop.
  • Tips in SOL. Optional, to a public tip wallet shown on the site. A tip is a thank you. It doesn't buy anything and it can't be refunded.

Independence

Before It Rugs is not affiliated with DexScreener, GeckoTerminal, RugCheck, pump.fun, Jupiter or any exchange, launchpad or token project. We use public data from some of these services, and their names appear on the site only to say where data came from.

Sponsors and advertisers never see grades early, never get a say in them, and never get a coin graded up or down. The grading is automatic and uses the same rules for every coin.

Not advice

Nothing here is financial advice. Memecoins are extremely high risk and most of them go to zero. Please read the risk warning before you use the site to make any decision with real money.
