Cookie Policy

The cookies Before It Rugs uses, which ones need your consent, how Google's consent tool works on our site, and how to change your choice at any time.

Updated 21 October 2026

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage, work the same way, so this policy covers them too.

We keep cookies to a minimum. Anything that isn't needed to run the site only runs if you say yes.

Strictly necessary

These are needed for the site to work, or to remember the choice you made about cookies. They don't need your consent and you can't switch them off on the site, though you can block them in your browser.

What Set by Why
Consent choice Google's consent tool Remembers whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies, so we don't ask on every page
Checkout Payhip (shop pages only) Payhip's script runs the on-page checkout and may set its own cookies while you pay
Site preferences Before It Rugs (local storage) Remembers small settings you choose, such as dismissing a notice. Stays on your device

These only run if you agree. If you say no, the site works exactly the same.

What Set by Why
Analytics None. We count visits on our own server without cookies or anything stored on your device (how) Tells us which pages are used and how people find the site
Advertising Google AdSense and its partners Shows, personalises and measures ads, and limits how often you see the same one. Examples include cookies named __gads and __gpi

If you reject advertising cookies, Google may still show ads that aren't personalised. These use limited data, for example to count ads and prevent fraud. Google explains this in its own policies.

We use Google's own consent tool, which Google certifies for showing AdSense ads to visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland. When you first visit, it asks for your choice. You can:

  • accept all
  • reject optional cookies
  • choose purposes and partners one by one

Your choice is stored in a strictly necessary cookie so the tool doesn't ask again on every page.

How to change your choice

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time:

  • On our site: use the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page. It reopens the consent tool.
  • In your browser: you can delete cookies and block them in your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may stop some parts of the site from working, including remembering your consent choice.
  • Google ads settings: you can manage ad personalisation across Google at adssettings.google.com.

Withdrawing consent stops optional cookies from being used from then on. It doesn't undo what happened before.

Notifications and email

Browser push notifications and email alerts aren't cookies. They only start if you sign up or allow notifications in your browser. Our privacy notice explains how they work and how to stop them.

Changes

If we add or change the cookies we use, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a new cookie needs consent, we'll ask for it before it's used.
